Terms of Service
Last updated October 19, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Automated Smart Living LLC ("we", "us") for your use of RoughLine AV, the design tool at roughlineav.com and the RoughLine AV app for iPhone and iPad (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you use the Service for a company, you agree on its behalf and confirm you're allowed to.
The short version
- Try it free for 14 days. No card needed.
- Subscriptions renew automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. Cancel any time and keep access to the end of the period you paid for.
- During early access, if RoughLine isn't working for you within 30 days of your first payment, we'll refund that payment in full.
- Your projects are yours. You can export them whenever you like.
- RoughLine AV helps you plan and present a system. It doesn't replace your own professional judgement, site verification, or the codes and manufacturer instructions that apply to the job.
Who can use it
RoughLine AV is a professional tool for businesses and people working in a trade. You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for everything done under your account, including by team members you add.
Free trial
New workspaces get a 14-day trial with no payment details required. The trial has limits, shown on the pricing page and in the app (for example, number of projects, levels and devices, a starter product library, and watermarked drawings). When the trial ends, your workspace becomes read-only: your projects stay saved and can still be viewed and exported, and subscribing restores full access.
Plans and seats
Paid plans are described on the pricing page. Solo is for one person and can add one extra seat. Team includes five people and can add more seats. A seat is one person who can sign in to your workspace and use the designer. Clients, builders and architects who view a project through a client link don't need an account and don't use a seat.
Billing, renewals and cancelling
- Payment. Subscriptions are bought on roughlineav.com and paid by card through our payment processor, Stripe. You authorize us to charge your card for your plan, any extra seats, and applicable taxes.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews at the end of each monthly or yearly period, and your card is charged the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Changing plans and seats. When you upgrade, add seats or switch between monthly and yearly, the difference for the rest of the current period is charged right away. When you downgrade or remove seats, the unused amount is credited toward future invoices.
- Cancelling. You can cancel any time from the Account menu in the app (Manage billing). Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for and then won't renew. You can undo a cancellation before then.
- Refunds. While RoughLine is in early access, if you ask within 30 days of your first payment for a subscription, we'll refund that first payment in full; email us to request it. This applies once per customer and covers the first payment only, not renewals or later plan changes. Otherwise payments aren't refundable, including for unused time in a period, except where the law requires otherwise. If you believe you were charged in error, email us and we'll look into it.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry it and we'll keep your access on in the meantime. If it still can't be collected, your workspace returns to the read-only state described under Free trial.
- Price changes. We may change prices. We'll tell you at least 30 days before a change affects your subscription, and it will apply from your next renewal. You can cancel before then if you don't want to continue.
- Taxes. Prices don't include sales tax or similar taxes, which are added where required.
Your content
You own the projects, floor plans, photos, pricing, client details and other material you put into RoughLine AV ("your content"). You give us permission to store, process, display and transmit your content only as needed to run the Service for you, including sharing it with people you invite or send a client link to. We don't sell your content or use it for advertising. How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy.
You're responsible for your content and for having the right to use it, including architects' plans you import and your clients' personal details. Only share client links with people who should see that project.
Designs, coverage predictions and product data
RoughLine AV produces planning aids: layouts, coverage predictions, cable lengths, rack loads, drawings, presentation sheets and proposals. They're estimates based on the information you enter and on manufacturer data, and they can be wrong. In particular:
- Wi-Fi, speaker and camera coverage are predictions, not measurements. Verify on site and at commissioning.
- Dimensions from scans, imported plans and drawings must be checked in the field before anything is built, cut or installed.
- Product specifications and prices in the library come from manufacturers and other sources and may be out of date or incomplete. Check current specifications, clearances and pricing with the manufacturer or distributor.
- Drawings and sheets marked as concepts are not construction documents. The Service doesn't provide engineering, architectural, electrical or other licensed professional services, and its output isn't stamped or certified.
You're responsible for your designs, your proposals and prices to your clients, and for meeting the building codes, electrical codes, permits and manufacturer instructions that apply to your work.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Service. For example, don't:
- break the law or infringe anyone's rights, including by uploading plans or images you don't have the right to use;
- try to get into accounts, workspaces or data that aren't yours, or get around plan limits or security;
- copy, scrape or resell the product library or the Service, or use it to build a competing product;
- overload, disrupt or reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows it;
- share one seat's sign-in among several people.
Our service
We work to keep RoughLine AV available and your data safe, but we can't promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, add or remove features. If we remove something that matters to how you use a paid plan, we'll try to give you notice. Keep your own copies of important projects; you can export them at any time.
RoughLine AV, its software, design and product library are owned by us or our licensors. Your subscription gives you a limited, non-transferable right to use the Service during your subscription; it doesn't transfer ownership of anything to you. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
The iPhone and iPad app
If you download the app from Apple's App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it, and isn't responsible for any claims about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also follow the App Store's terms.
Ending your use
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the Account menu. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users or the Service at risk, or remains unpaid. Where reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem and export your projects. Sections that by their nature should continue after your account ends (such as payment owed, disclaimers, limits of liability and governing law) still apply.
Disclaimers
Except as expressly stated in these terms, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows: we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business, even if we were told they were possible; and our total liability for all claims about the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$100 if that's more. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of your content, your designs or proposals, or your breach of these terms or the law, you'll cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, including reasonable legal fees.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Hamilton County, Ohio, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. Before going to court, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date above and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the updated terms apply. If you don't agree, you can cancel before they take effect.
General
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the plan details on the pricing page, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. You can't transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a sale or reorganization of our business.
